Boulder strike kills three on Rio Grande train in Mont. canyon

Three people died and fourteen were injured when a 20 ton boulder toppled from a cliff and hit the Denver & Rio Grande No. 3 passenger train 18 miles east of Grand Junction. Eight injured were hospitalized. the wreckage fell into the Grand River as relief trains rushed to the scene.

Southern railway boss cuts own pay in retrenchment plan

Washington October 11 Fairfax Harrison president of the Southern Railway leads a 20 percent salary reduction for himself and a general plan to cut officers’ pay. The plan taxes all salaries above 2500 a year by graduated amounts and cuts the preferred stock dividend from 5 percent to 2 1/2 percent, payable as deferred script.
