Oct 11 Key West is a wrecked city after a hurricane damages property estimated at 2 million dollars. Martial law is in force, the mayor has proclaimed it, and the Key West Guards patrol the streets while the government is asked to send troops to assist. Many residents fled or lost homes as chaos spreads.
Hom Woon Min Sing and Leong Gong died within 33 minutes after the tolling of the gate at the State prison in Charlestown for the Tong war killings. Warden Bridges and a line of witnesses watched as currents of about 1800 volts were applied for 70 seconds, ending with a quiet funeral schedule and Catholic rites possible for the three men.
Police investigate a gruesome case after a librarian named Elizabeth Johnson vanished on August 12 leaving a tech device behind. Authorities warn the discovery of ten pieces may indicate a violent crime. The case remains active with no arrest announced.
At Tiverton Rhode Island on October 11 authorities reported severed legs found in a suitcase in bushes. They suspect a murder possibly tied to a missing Institute of Technology librarian Elizabeth G Johnson who carried a suitcase when last seen in New Bedford. Authorities cite a New Bedford newspaper with limb fragments as a key clue, with murder thought to have occurred there and body moved to Tiverton.
Dr John Stimson of Tiverton concluded the murder occurred no more than 12 to 15 hours before the suitcase with its ghastly contents was found. A common handsaw reportedly severed the legs from the trunk near Bulgarmarsh road at Bliss s Four Corners eight miles from New Bedford. The area draws visitors from Fall River and surrounding Rhode Island towns. the nearest house is farmer Martineau s at Bliss s Four Corners.

Six Mexicans arrested for public words denouncing Taft and Diaz may be held until Taft’s next stops in El Paso and Juarez.
The city of Boston spent $34 983.62 on running Mayor Fibbard’s office in eight months of the current fiscal year as shown by Auditor Mitchell to the Board of Aldermen. Automobile, carriage hire, entertaining guests and office expenses totaled 5605.21 for entertaining guests. telephones cost 1081.19, books 540.22, flowers 170, and expert service 21g. The report notes a remaining balance of about 15,000 for the four months, and mentions controversy over contingent funds and possible private City Club office costs, with aldermen messenger and telephone costs also itemized.
