A South Boston blaze in the C Street district destroyed seven buildings and damaged others. The fire began early and caused about $100,000 in property loss. Approximately 70 horses perished and about 35 more were rescued with great difficulty.

Michael Clementen 34 of 144 North Street lay unconscious near 205 A Street South Boston. He was found by Station 6 officers and taken to City Hospital with spinal injuries. Doctors suspected a fall as the cause while language barriers impede his account. he remains in danger.

A wind driven blaze from Estabrook & Sons foundry on First street swept to C street, gutting wooden stables and corralled horses. At Galvin & Sons 35 horses perished, 15 out of 20 at Sampson & Joslin died, Whipple and Fitzgerald stables suffered heavy losses, and many wagons were destroyed. Firefighters and police, hurt and exhausted, fought to rescue animals as two acres burned by 2:45, with community members aiding in the effort.
Several firefighters from Engines 2 3 and 4 were overcome by smoke. injuries include cuts and a nail in the foot. Victims received treatment at Cambridge Relief Hospital and home recovery, with Captain M Coy and Thomas Mimneaux among those affected.
