London October 8 The near eastern crisis has spurred a political and newspaper campaign against Prime Minister David Lloyd George. Four leading weekly reviews and a strong Sunday newspaper ally urge his resignation as the crisis deepens.
President Harding authorized a nation wide appeal for Near East refugee relief. Funds will be distributed by the American Red Cross and Near East Relief, raised by a special committee headed by former Postmaster General Will Hays.
The President states a recognized and appealing emergency exists in the Near East. After full conference it is unanimously agreed that the American Red Cross will respond to the crisis.
In Gloucester on Oct 8 the bodies of Harry A. Devine of 639 North 82d and an unidentified man were found entwined on the floor in a reported sordid love tryst. Police investigated the death as a possible homicide or suicide. Further details were pending at press time.
Los Angeles reports silent triumph as William S. Hart fights an intestinal fever that kept him bedridden since last Thursday. After delirium and brief awakenings, he rested four hours this morning, indicating a crisis passed in his battle toward recovery.
Mathews Engineers Inc based at 10 High Street Boston invites two young men to learn industrial engineering for shoe manufacturing. The firm specializes in standardization of shoe factory control and establishing within plants a waste elimination department and training school for executives and foremen. Operations extend country wide beyond shoes.
A three car passenger train crashed head on with a fast moving freight train near Rollingsford Junction Dover New Hampshire as a heavy fog descended. The collision occurred just before 10 o clock on the Dover to Alton Bay branch of the Boston and Maine railroad.
