Commonwealth Queen of Boston Port Opens Maiden Voyage

The Dominion line unveils the Commonwealth, a six day voyage liner from Liverpool to Boston. A twin screw steel ship of 13 000 tons gross, with 600 feet length, 60 feet beam, 250 saloon and cabin passeng ers plus 1000 steerage, electric lighting, and 15 500 tons cargo capacity. SCHOONER SUNK The A. A. Shaw Lies on Bottom With All Sails Set

The schooner A. A. Shaw bound from Philadelphia to Providence with 900 tons of coal was cut down in fog by the steamship Hamilton three miles from the Delaware Breakwater. All hands were rescued except the two boatmen who were later saved. The Shaw sank shortly after.

Tornado Kills Six In Biwabik Finlander Settlement

A Saturday tornado swept the Finlander settlement along Pike River near Biwabik Minnesota, destroying a family of six and leaving four children dead. Victims’ names are unavailable due to limited reports. Marowitz, missing since the storm, was found mutilated on rocks near his home. William Hilstrom died in hospital from a fractured skull.
