Liquidation lowers prices in New York market
A brisk liquidation on Monday evening, Oct. 6, pushed the Dow and broad market lower with about a million shares traded. Banks and big pools sold heavily while Morgan and other leading figures faced blame for the collapse of a Gates era boom. Readability improved later as reports noted bank loan adjustments and industry debt pressures, with declines in Wabash, Reading, Western Union and many industrials. The local market saw weakness in arbitrage stocks and copper issues as sentiments shifted toward caution. Heath, with details on bullion movements and mine outputs, closes this report.
