Arthur Vinburg, 42, of 94 Pleasant Street Somerville, died at Relief Hospital shortly after 11 last night after being struck by Roxbury Crossing Car 138 on Hanover Street. He had just left a store and appeared to ignore the oncoming streetcar while attempting to cross near Hanover and Cross streets. Pedestrians rushed to aid but the car could not be stopped and the victim was run over.
Mayor Elias P. Mann of Troy sent a petition to the Railroad Commissioners asking an investigation of the Boston and Maine crash at Lansingburg and urging a double tracking from Johnsonville to Troy. The board had already ordered an inquiry set to begin at Lansingburg station tomorrow.
The malt extract liquor case against ex Mayor Hurley opened in Salem with a crowded court, witnesses including Mayor Pinnock Alderman Reed store managers and Albert H Harris of New York. The government called health board analyst Herman C Lithgow who testified the malt resembled porter in ingredients. The case is unfinished.
