Fireman Severely Burned At Dorchester Blaze

Fireman George Dowling of Engine Company 21 suffered severe burns while directing a water stream at a Dorchester fire. The blaze confined to C. H. Maybury’s house 1972 1974 Dorchester Avenue caused about 1000 in losses. Dowling slipped and rolled down cellar stairs into the flames. The body found in the East River is George H. Hayden, brother in law of George E. Smith of South Boston, not Smith. A letter in the deceased’s pocket misled investigators.
