Morgan Denies Any Promised Returns for Campaign Gifts

J P Morgan and Co testified before Senator Clapp they never contributed with any promise of return or immunity. Morgan stressed funds were given for the country’s good, and he recalled contributions of 100000 in 1904 and 50000 later, with no direct contact from Roosevelt or White House. He said the Harriman fund and Cortelyou were involved in campaign finances but denied any concerted action with other financiers. He stood by the claim that no funds were solicited from him for other candidates or parties.
