A daring safe blowing was attempted at the Mqnor store of W. J. & D. Lyons in Dewey square opposite the South station on Sunday night. Yeggmen drilled a hole the size of a thumb in the safe door and broke the combination with a mallet, forced entry via a rear door, and fled leaving drills a mallet bagging and nitroglycerine aboard. Twenty dollars was stolen from the money drawers. Authorities believe the gang fled just as the explosive was ready to be used.

A wild engine from the Rogers Avenue roundhouse crashed into the Dedham local passenger train near Yar mouth Street Bridge, injuring firefighters and several passengers. Dedham engineer Thomas Goggett, fireman Frank Musche, and passengers Mrs. Jane Smith, Charles Watson, Michael McCarthy, and Miss Frances Litchfield were among those affected by flying debris and collisions.
