Spinners In Convention Opens In Boston

The twenty first convention of the National Spinners Association of America opened in Templar Hall at 724 Washington street with thirty nine delegates from nineteen districts in Massachusetts and New York. President Michael Duggan spoke and Frank Mularkey reported encouraging finances. Night work was debated and to be revisited tomorrow. A proposed amalgamation with the Federation of Textile Unions was discussed and laid aside until the next convention.

Burned at Stake in Eclectic After Alleged Assault

In Eclectic, a town near Wetumpka, Winfield Townsend, alias Floyd, a Black man, was burned at the stake shortly after midnight after being charged with attempting to assault Mrs. Lennie Harrington. Her husband set the fire. Townsend’s body was later pursued by bloodhounds.

Pierce Wins on Third Ballot for Tenth District Nomination

Dr. George B. Pierce of Milton won the Republican nomination for Congress in the tenth district on the third ballot at Union Hall last night. Harrison H. Atwood, his principal opponent, moved for a unanimous nomination, pledging support. Delegates numbered 108 with Pierce receiving 44 votes, including supports from Ward 19, Ward 20, Ward 24, and Milton. Atwood led early with 29 votes. The convention was harmonious and Pierce offered a brief thanks, then hosted a reception and luncheon for delegates.

Robbers Loot Vatican Safe In Rome Heist Known Today

Thieves entered the Vatican, forced a safe on the second floor, stealing securities worth 357000 lire and 30 percent lire in silver. The risk-free entry suggests burglars familiar with the Apostolic Palace quarters tasked with guarding horses carriages and St. Peter's Cathedral decorations. Stinson Shatters Records at Shoe City Oval

Cambridge rider W. I. Stinson shattered three to twenty-eight mile bicycle records in a three cornered motor paced race with Harry Elkes and James Moran at Brockton. He won by 3 percent over Moran and 415 laps ahead of Elkes, clocking 37 52 for twenty-eight miles after extending the distance from twenty-five. Moran finished nearly a mile back at twenty-five miles, racing six seconds quicker than the previous mark. Elkes debuted on the local track, showing caution on turns. Tomorrow Stinson resumes racing with Moran and Ross as the field tightens.
