Lt Wagner Killed in Battle in Mexican War Era Army Unit
Years ago, and had lived for several years in West Medford where he was highly esteemed. In November 188 he joined the signal corps serving until 189. He also served as a lieutenant in that corps during the Spanish American War. Lieutenant Wagner was the first commissioned officer of either the Twenty sixth or Forty-sixth Regiment to be killed in battle since their organization. He was appointed second lieutenant in the Twenty-sixth Regiment July 5 on the recommendation of Senator Lodge. In West Medford a widowed mother, a wife and two children survive him.
