Maurice Kennelly stabbed his brother in law John Kennedy on Anawan Street at 2 20 pm. Kennedy died minutes later on the doorstep. Kennelly was captured soon after and is held by officers. Autopsy to follow. Kennedy leaves five children and a widow.
F D Somerby spoke to about six hundred in Cleveland warning of a hostile reception with a police guard present. He tearfully claimed he prayed through the night after an injunction in Iron Hall receiver ship cases, then refused to answer questions and was hurried away in a cab.
A. C. Kauffman, president of the Vanderbilt Benevolent Association of Charleston, sent a keepsake to Ruth Cleveland on her first birthday. The bound leaflet from 1891 carries a blessing for the child and notes Mr. Cleveland's honorary membership from a 1885 visit. The text ends with a nod to Salvation Oil for cuts and bruises.
Chicago reports Thomas Geohegan alias Thomas Coleman, a known crook, is the Cronin murder suspect now in Oregon Penitentiary. Portland dispatches say penitentiary officials were asked to extradite him. Attorneys say one murderer fled to the Pacific Coast, but trace was lost.
In Huntmeron on October 2 Abraham Frazier a Black man and Louis Gildersleeve a white man quarreled in a saloon. Gildersleeve bought a bread knife and killed Frazier by slashing his throat after a brief walk. Frazier died at midnight and Gildersleeve was arrested. The suspect is the son of a prominent temperance figure.
William Boyd a well known Winthrop citizen attempted suicide at his Washington avenue residence yesterday noon. The act failed at first but he lingered until about six o'clock when he died. He had suffered a facial cancer and after an unsuccessful operation. Depression over prognosis is believed to have driven the act. He was not dressed when family heard a pistol shot and found him with a revolver wound under the left nipple.
Frank Cooley, leader of the Cooley gang, was shot and killed near his father's home between Fairchance and Smithfield in Uniontown Pennsylvania. The incident occurred about 5 o'clock in the afternoon.
Henry Nemo a 17 year old of Beechwood street Cohasset is hospitalized in danger after an accidental gunshot wound at his home yesterday morning He had borrowed a loaded gun from a friend and did not know it was loaded the weapon discharged striking his shoulder He was moved to City Hospital after Boston Emergency Hospital declined to treat him His prognosis improved to likely recovery at 11 PM last night
The Melrose Democrats organize a large rally in Town Hall on Monday evening October 10 with Governor Russell among the speakers and several other notable figures.
A large tenement on Wyoming Avenue Melrose was destroyed by fire at 5 AM. Only two tenants remained in the block as four had moved out. Mrs Irel Gorman and Joseph Drew escaped in nightclothes. The fire, believed incendiary, caused about 3000 dollars in damage to the Theodore C Weeks owned building.
A very young male infant’s body was found floating in the Charles River near the Harvard bridge by several boys yesterday afternoon. It was taken first to Station 16 and then to Jones’s undertaking rooms, with Medical Examiner Draper notified.
