Fuel Administrator Garfield orders nationwide price limits on retail coal and coke to curb profits. Retailers must set margins to the 1915 average plus 30 percent, not exceeding July 1915 margins. Local state committees enforce compliance and dealers must file sworn cost sheets. Garfield cites 1915 as normal year for calculation.
James J. Storrow, chairman of the New England fuel committee, will fix retail coal prices across the region in coming weeks. As winter nears, households must seek a square deal from local dealers under his oversight, with industry depending on his decisions to keep supplies moving.

Otto Hoffman of 111 Maverick street Fast Boston an alien enemy employed at the Border street foundry of Bertleson and Peterson was arrested in Maverick square after his side car motorcycle barreled through pedestrians and struck a jewelry store window. He faces tentative reckless driving charges while federal authorities assess his alien status and registration. Hoffman's claims include coming from South America eleven months ago and obtaining a vehicle license on Saturday.
In the mounted armory on Commonwealth avenue a farewell for Hinb's second forty percent drafted men bound for Ayer training camp drew grizzled Civil War veterans and younger vets of 1908. Colonel J Payson Bradley led the salute and pledged G A R support as democracy is made safe for the world.
