Atteboro September 30 The Bates Opera House was formally opened tonight with box office sales starting September 20. In four hours all 1000 seats sold and a large audience gathered to see Lawrence Barrett present Richelieu.

In Skowhegan yesterday descendants of Benjamin Weston marked a hundredth anniversary of his settling in Madison Maine. The original Weston farm is now occupied by Nathan Weston age 90, a Benjamin son, continuing the family line on the historic site.
A S Gage & Co a Chicago wholesale and retail millinery firm confessed judgment for 897000 to First National Bank and assigned stock to H J McFarland. Liabilities 750000 mainly to eastern houses assets about 650000. Store at Wabash and Adams closed to keep sheriff from seizing stock. 300 customers confined two hours. Deputy sheriff took possession for the bank. judge kept goods in place. Assignee ordered to post bonds of 2000000. The firm blames bank haste and hopes to reopen tomorrow.
In Groverston on September 30 the Universalist convention elected officers led by Rev. Richard Eddy as president and Rev. A E Dennison as vice president. Trustees and a publishing-house board were named, with 76 parishes and 61 ministers represented. Afternoon addresses were given, prayers offered, and the session closed at four.
Miss Lillian Ramsdell aged 18 living with Daniel Trask and wife in Albion died suddenly this morning under suspicious circumstances. Coroner's inquest heard she admitted taking paris green. She had been violently ill for twelve hours before death. inquest adjourned pending autopsy and further developments.
About twenty leading boot and shoe dealers in LowELy met at the Merrimack House to form a local branch of the National Association of Boot and Shoe Dealers. A committee was appointed to draft a constitution and propose officers.
In Malden on September 30 a large Baptist Church reception honored Rev. S W Foljambe and his wife. During the event a purse totaling 300 dollars was presented to Mr Foljambe on behalf of the congregation in appreciation of his service.
In New York yesterday Dan Driscoll, leader of the vocie gang who killed his mistress eezy Gerrity, was today found guilty of Pollarder in the first degree.
Mr Collison of the committee on permanent organization announced he could report part of the convention officers and presented the name of the Hon Henry B Lovering of Lynn for permanent chairman.
