Lawrence Nov 29. John Warnis 28 burst into the public sitting room at 25 Harrington street and shot dead Mrs. Veronic Burton a widow after driving others from the room. He fled the building and two hours later tried to shoot two policemen who placed him under arrest.
A man named Warnis, motivated by unrequited love for Mrs. Burton, killed her in a North Andover boarding house after an evening of drinking. He fired one shot as guests fled and was captured by police with a second pistol drawn. Mrs. Burton, a 32 year old mill worker, died from a single bullet.
Charles H. Hyde former city chamberlain was found guilty of bribery for using his official position to procure improper influence. The jury deliberated about three and a half hours before verdict. Hyde remanded to jail until December 4 after the trial in New York Supreme Court.
The final day featured closing arguments with Max D. Steuer for Hyde challenging Robins insanity and the alibi while Assistant District Attorney Moss urged guilt. Moss attacked Hyde’s alibi as full of holes and defended Robins sanity, while Steuer argued the trial evidence makes the alleged bribery conversation between Hyde and Robin improbable.
William S. Tibbets, president of the first National Bank of Somersworth and treasurer of the Somersworth Savings Bank, died after a long illness at age 58 in Somersworth New Hampshire on November 29.

Manila reports a deadly typhoon crossing Samar Leyte and North Panay with 260 killed in Samar and Leyte and under 60 in other areas. Tacloban suffered major damage but fewer than a dozen fatalities. Government sends relief. Mindanao reports via wireless from Warren.
Theodore Roosevelt Charles Francis Adams of Boston and James Ford Rhodes members of the American Historical Association executive council hosted a dinner in New York for a group of historical writers and history teachers from American universities.
The Chelsea Republican city committee unanimously endorsed Ambassador Curtis Guild for Senator. The committee's action will be sent to the Republican Senator and Representatives from the Chelsea district.
The General Court delegation includes a Republican Senator and four Republican Representatives. The committee action is seen as the start of a Guild boom with five votes and likely to trigger similar moves by city and town committees across the State.
John Lombardo aged 19 was arrested in Franklin and brought to Whitinsville on a murder charge for the shooting death of Joseph Leonardo last Sunday. Leonardo died at Worcester Hospital Monday. Police say the two men were walking in the woods when a bullet struck Leonardo in the abdomen. the motive remains unknown.
James J. Storrow was elected president of the Boston Chamber of Commerce for a second term by the board of directors. He previously held the post in 1909.
The organization elected J. Randolph Coolidge Jr. as first vice president Henry S. Dennison as second vice president Daniel D. Morss as treasurer and James A. McKibben as secretary An executive committee was chosen including Coolidge Dennison Fahey Edward Ek Hall Hagan Richards and Phelan The brief meeting featured unanimous ballots and Storrow met the board informally after learning of his election.
Mayor Fitzgerald criticized the Chamber of Commerce selection of James J. Storrow for its presidency. He argued it would have been wiser to choose someone outside the banking circle due to criticism of banking interests. He added he will aid Storrow moving forward.
