West Hospkie Aids Distressed Vessels at Sea Near England
Officers of the American steamer West Hospkie reported sighting the French fishing barkentine Raymond 200 miles off the English coast in distress on the outward passage. The Raymond’s skipper was ill and short of water and food, prompting West Hospkie to dispatch a boatload of provisions. Later a wireless from a burning shipping board steamer requested tow to Plymouth, but weather allowed the vessel to continue. The West Hospkie also brought in 1680 tons of general merchandise.
