Irregular market leads to cautious copper and steel chatter

The New York stock market was irregular and less active on Wednesday evening November 27. Amalgamated Copper rose modestly as traders expected gains, with reports of bullish moves from major houses. News on copper supplies and prices circulated, including a claim that United Metals Selling Co would stop copper for delivery before March 10 and take orders after May at 17 cents per pound. General Electric surged then retreated on word the dividend cut would not be enacted. Sugar and New England Gas and Coke bonds moved up, while Lawson’s bulletin cast doubt on near term settlements. The Tamarack Mining dividend was announced, and Minnesota authorities said Northern Securities laws were not applicable. The overall tone remained cautious with earnings and capital movements driving limited activity.
