Fire destroys Walton home near Chelsea gasometer

A blaze at 1 am in Chelsea started in Roger Walton's bake shop at 132 Addison street and spread to his home. Walton rescued seven older children while his wife escaped with twin babies. Firemen saved the nearby gasometer containing 7,000 cubic feet of gas, preventing a catastrophic explosion. Walton's insurance stands at $2500.

Fire gutts Central House Ashland in early morning blaze

The Central House at Ashland was gutted by fire with water damage totaling about 5000 dollars. Lizzie Barriere discovered the blaze and aroused Arthur Johnson, whose bed was on fire. Occupants had narrow escapes. Cause suspected as an oil heater explosion. Owner Edward Tierney leased by Joseph H Morrisette. Building may be rebuilt.
