A British cruiser issues a wireless warning to Allied shipping directing vessels to avoid regular liner lanes as reports describe submarines active off the North Atlantic coast ready for another campaign against Allied shipping.
Inez Milholland Boissevain, noted suffragist and welfare worker, died in a Los Angeles hospital after a 10 week illness. She was 30 years old.
Mrs Boissevain suddenly collapsed while addressing a city audience during the campaign. She was taken to a hospital as her husband and her parents hurried from New York to be with her, with sister Miss Vida Milholland staying by her side since the incident.
John F Brennan, longtime clerk in the city street department, died at his home on Colum bus avenue in Jamaica Plain. He was 64 years old.
