Gas escapes asphyxiate Cambridge family saves lives

Patrolman Cornelius Sullivan and his wife and three daughters were nearly overcome by gas from a parlor stove at 8 Plymouth street Cambridge. Nellie Sullivan, 17, woke the family, freed the window, and alerted neighbors as Dr Crocker and others revived the group. The family remained ill, and Sullivan senior will miss days of duty.

Plumber Thomas O'Brien Rescued After Chimney Collapse

A Harvard College plumber, Thomas O'Brien, was working in a cramped chimney at the Hemenway Gym addition when a lowering pipe rope broke. He was trapped beneath a heavy iron piece, rescued after volunteers dug through bricks, and taken to Cambridge Street Hospital with a fractured skull, alive and slowly regaining consciousness. O'Brien, 30, of Spruce Street, Cambridge, survived the peril, though shaken and injured.
