The Lancaster Cremation and Funeral Reform society opened the second U S crematorium, with religious services. The elevated southern Lancaster building will have two retorts, one in use. W J Martin of the St Louis Globe-Democrat inherits 100000 from David Gregg of Edinburgh, Scotland. The wedding of Dr Joseph Couch and Miss Ellen Carey took place at the Holy Redeemer Church with a brief wedding trip planned. C Fred Hutchinson becomes assistant manager of the Boston division of the Baltimore and Ohio Telegraph Company with 20 years in telegraphy.
At New Haven a 4-year-old girl left with her 12-year-old brother burned to death after setting her clothes on fire. Northampton accounts show a 2856 deficit requiring repayment or prosecution. G A R encampment in Portland on June 22 to 25 1885 opens with day one. Worcester Agricultural Society elected officers with Pratt as president and 120281 dollars net profit from last fair. A plan to sell grounds was rejected and a new location sought. New England Tobacco Growers elected officers with Col EB N Phelps as president Silas G Stubard secretary and treasurer Samuel C Harding. Executive committee includes I V Lester S G Goodrich H H Austin and Frederick Bronson.

Major E W McLean leads Centen nial region preparations to participate in the Centennial president inauguration on March 4 1885. The organization combines one company from each of 18 states with field officers, staff, and a Washington rendezvous, with headquarters in New York.
President Norvin Green of Western Union Telegraph issues a public letter defending the company's role in transmitting election returns. He denies delaying altering or withholding state results and says AP provided the bulletins. He cites prompt service and supports an Indiana inquiry led by the Indiana Democratic state committee or its representative.

A gathering of colored citizens debated the national shift's impact on the southern race. Sen. Colquitt spoke on closer race relations and guarded rights under the democratic administrations. Cleveland’s reception remarks pledging protection of negro rights were read and met with cheers.

In a federal court ruling Judge Blodgett ordered the ballots produced before the grand jury to test for tampering in the congressmen vote. Canvass began 2 PM and showed Brand with about 25 votes more than tally sheets indicated, Leman correspondingly less, due to Republican tickets bearing Brand’s name. Brand’s lead near 60 in that precinct.
Ottawa reports public uproar over the flogging of prisoner McCormick at the urging of Manitoba Attorney General Miller forces the cabinet to demand his resignation. Miller will exit the cabinet in about a week. Also, the Quebec murderess Mrs Boutel receives life imprisonment after her death sentence is commuted. In Sherbrooke, W W Beckett hardware dealer makes an assignment with direct liabilities of 50 000 and indirect liabilities of 100 000.
Edward Morris a Chicago jeweler charged with swindling Chicago firms was discharged as Gov. Cleveland refused a requisition for evidence. Authorities say he and partners smuggled jewelry from Vienna. $6000 of $9000 found in his possession was seized by customs.
Springfield officials and local engineers heard complaints from towns along the Connecticut River about migratory habits and river conditions. J C Hammond City Engineer Davis and Judge Bassett of Northampton and Engineer Hershell of the Holyoke Water Power Company spoke, urging the state to make river defences more systematic and scientific.
In Monmouth Illinois a man named H R Thompson fired five shots at K T O Tiubbard the defaulting cashier of the First National Bank as he left the courthouse. One shot struck Tiubbard Thompson, a Texan who suffered losses from the bank failure, was arrested at the scene.
From Sprague W T the Oregonian despatch reports Sheriff Cody returned from Davenport after a mob spotted his posse and dispersed. The crowd allowed the records to be removed in peace.
Boston and vicinity reports a small fire in Metropolitan stable on Camden street causing an alarm from box 99 at 1 03 P M. A Cambridge boarding house on Gore street suffered $100 damage Tuesday morning. A flue burst at the brush electric lighting station on Norfolk avenue Roxbury caused a 4 20 P M alarm with trifling damage. A South Boston resident was injured in a brush fire incident on Atlantic street. A Dorchester brush fire on Elizabeth place led to minor damage after repeated chimney fires at the Coolidge house. Norwick Conn Holtville mills burned at 2 AM with $10000 loss. Springfield Ma barn fire on William Davis farm with several livestock and equipment burned incipient incendiary fire. Worcester Mass old passenger and freight stations burned last night with about $1000 loss.
Early Tuesday a tent rose on Tremont street near Park Street gate and a sign proclaimed Paying an Election Bet. Mrs Francis Malliken ran a peanut stall to raise 50 if Cleveland lost New York by 10 600. She sold eight bushels by noon and by 9 PM had nearly 100 surplus, to aid Thanksgiving relief.
In Montpelier on November 25 the house defeated the agricultural experiment station bill and the local option license bill failed 123 to 72 after committee support. A railroad freight discrimination ban died in the senate 120 to 81. The town school system bill was amended to let towns vote in 85 and 86. North Hero bridge funding of 25000 was approved by both houses with rapid progress toward completion by midnight.
Patrolman Pender of the fourth division observed a man fleeing southward along Harrison Avenue near the Broadway extension. He noted the escape route but the man’s exact destination was not determined as the pursuit proceeded toward nearby streets.
The Boston Museum presented Othello last night with Edwin Booth as Iago and Mr. Barron as Othello, a switch from Monday, making Iago the standout. Booth’s cool, methodical plotting and humor dominated, while Barron’s Othello showed strong susceptibility to jealousy. Other cast members Huson, Parks, and Thompson improved, with the Marble Heart and Thanksgiving plans noted alongside readings and concerts by Raymond and Eddy.

The men from the schooner Priscillar Scribner at Burnham's wharf were discharged by the captain at 8 A M Tuesday and followed by officers to Providence, where they were arrested at a dining saloon at 2 P M. Edward Turner bore a bad cut on a hand at arrest.
Framingham selectmen conferred Tuesday with the Boston water board and city engineer on the site of a pumping station to supply South Framingham with water from Farm pond. The board of health ordered two dwellings on Billerica street and Pearl street vacated for bad vaults. Marshall Smith named a call foreman to Engine 17. Likely street department workers cut to one third time soon due to funding limits.
Work has begun to lay all Western Union telegraph wires underground from the Eastern Depot to the main office on State street. Wires will be placed in two heavy iron tubes three inches in diameter six inches apart. The project runs day and night until completion at an estimated cost of about $15,000. After burial, all poles and obstructing wires on the above routes will be removed.
A grand ball at Horticultura hall Tuesday evening supported St Marys infant asylum. The event drew a large crowd with about 150 couples dancing to Higgin’s band. Catering was by E. M. Reed. The floor committee led by Benj. H. Knowles and aided by B. F. Duffee and Co. A. Newell organized a sizable corps of helpers.
Philadelphia November 25 President Keim of the Reading railroad forwarded a letter to Receiver Little of the Central railroad of New Jersey declining to pay the December dividend on account of the rental of the New Jersey Central lines.

Margaret Miller of 25 Marion Street was fatally stabbed by Daniel Shea, a housemate, after his nightly rest was disturbed by the family cat. Shea killed the cat earlier that morning and attacked Miller when she upbraided him. He was arrested.
The Crisfield Leader notes seven quarts of a second crop of strawberries were shipped from Mr. John Pruit's farm on Wednesday. The Cambridge Democrat reports a new second crop of pears appearing since December in Dr. J. W. Henry's Cambridge garden.
In municipal criminal court on Tuesday Paolisello Vincenzo and Lifun Rosso, both Italians, faced charges of mutual assault with a knife and pistol with intent to kill. Rosso was held on $200 and Vincenzo on $1,000 for December term appearance at the superior criminal court.
