Clemenceau Enjoys Museum Visit During Boston Stopover
Georges Clemenceau known as the Tiger of France toured the Museum of Fine Arts last night viewing Japanese pottery with keen eye. He then traveled with police escorts to host Francis J. Higginson Jr. at 215 Commonwealth Avenue before heading to Harvard Yale game in New Haven. He laughed at a grotesque sculpture face and quipped about a Senate attack mentioning Hitchcock. He rested at his host’s home, ate breakfast, and sent secretary Lefevre to place a wreath at Walnut Hill Cemetery instead of himself. Officials say Lefevre issued a statement acknowledging the flood of invitations and apologies for not replying. Guards included M J Burke and detectives Cleary Cronin and Dubois. The note ends with a quip about brains in cold climates.
