Allston P. Joyce, former Medford city clerk, arrested on charges of larceny of city funds. He is held on $10,000 bail for examination. District Attorney Corcoran ordered the arrest after the State Board of Efficiency and Economy reported on Joyce’s books.
The arrest follows Joyce's September resignation after admitting irregularities in city funds he managed. He also stepped down as cemetery trustees financial agent. Mayor Taylor and state officials reported shortages, with Joyce acknowledging speculative losses of city money. The board examined the discrepancies before arrest.
Dr. Lionel E. Dudley Alice Pelletier and Kate Michaud are indicted for the murder of Mildred Sullivan by the Aroostook county grand jury. Ambrose Bridges is charged as an accessory before the fact while Perley Pelletier faces no bill but is a key witness. Arraignment is set for Friday or Saturday with trial expected to start December 7.
Mayor Edward F. Willard was renominated in Chelsea for the mayoral race to face James A. Malone on election day December 15. Former Mayor John E. Beck lost out. In the aldermen at large contest, four candidates advance: George S. Henderson Abraham H. Klubock William A. O'Brien and Michael Murray.
In the inaugural primaries under the new city charter, Arthur B. Curtis Republican and James P Dolan Democrat secured nominations for mayor. Dolan, former finance committee chairman, appears poised for the December election.
The Anna J. Sanborn of Boothbay Harbor Maine sank after a squall three miles off Dick Island Isles of Shoals while carrying dried fish to Boston. Captain I W Toole and George H Phinney were rescued by lobster fisherman George Dobbins of Portsmouth New Hampshire.
Capt Toole and Phinney clung to flooring as the schooner rolled and sank within minutes. Dobbins aided by taking a boat to the scene and a life saving crew from Isles of Shoals assisted. The Anna L. Sanborn lost a plank three miles northeast, likely loosened by heavy seas.
A four alarm fire swept the top floors of a brick block at 347 357 Cambridge Street last night, sending ten families from an adjoining tenement and causing losses over 50000. The blaze sparked one of the most exciting nights for the fire department as seven fires burned from 6 to 830 pm, mainly in the downtown district with rapid ambulance and police mobilization.
A six story brick Glen brook Wine Company building caught fire on the fourth floor with a small foundry in the Jones Bertsch Company. The blaze spread via the elevator shaft to the mansard roof as jail inmates faced embers near their cells. Sheriff Quinn assured safety as Mayor Curley visited with his wife and hospital staff kept patients calm.
Donald B. McMillan reports Crocker Land may not exist or lies far from Peary's claimed sighting in 1906. His 1913 expedition failed to find real land after trekking 125 miles across the Polar Sea from Cape Thomas Hubbard. The party, including veterans of Peary’s pole dash, remained well and hopeful for a spring detail report.
Russian Poland near Plock reports Cossacks capturing a German aeroplane and its two aviators after the craft dropped bombs on the town. The incident occurred about 24 miles from Plock as World War I reporting notes the date and location from Petrograd via London.

London reports a massive German retreat toward the frontier as Russian forces achieve a major triumph at Plock on the Vistula. Crown Prince allegedly led maneuvers, with German columns pursuing as two Russian corps fall back toward the Bzura.
A Daily Chronicle report from northern France says heavy German reinforcements and fresh guns began a renewed assault from Ypres to La Bassée. The Allies attacked alongside, with English artillery reportedly thwarting German efforts.
Rome November 24 9 55 p m. Sir Henry Howard 48 envoy from England to the Holy See announced. Vatican expressed pleasure noting Britain and the United States had no permanent diplomat to the Pope. Previously England sent Sir Henry Errington to Rome and Taft represented the United States in 1902 on the Friars Land issue.
Mary Arnold of Somerville was fined $5 in Somerville Police Court for slapping Hazel Griffin as they left an electric car in Boston after Griffin laughed at Arnold.
