At Norwood on November 22 a collision between engines 53 and 65 in the New York and New England yards caused engine 53 to crash down a thirty foot embankment. The engineer of 53 is missing. Brakeman Gallagher was trapped and later rescued with injuries. all others escaped. Trains delayed until 7.
A four dead and three injured train wreck occurred on the Union Pacific near Alda Nebraska as the Overland Flyer collided with a freight train. Both engines wrecked, cars telescoped, and debris toppled. Killed were engineers A G Barrett and K McDonald conductor J W Keeter and fireman Owens. Injured include fireman Castillo and mail clerk Lyons fatally hurt brakeman Sutherland badly hurt and scalded one passenger slightly hurt.
At the Republican mayoralty convention in Gloucester on November 22 Asa G. Andrews was nominated for a third term. William H. Jordan William A. Pew and Robert R. Fears were chosen as school committeemen.
A Ward 19 Common Council candidate in Roxbury walked into the Dailey Street Opera House lavatory and fired two shots after a printing error. A 22 caliber cartridge was found. no injuries reported as the politician denied the act. Witnesses cited a possible misperceived shadow as the cause.
Joseph Medill, editor of the Chicago Tribune, saw his Pasadena residence burn this morning. Loss placed at 80 thousand dollars with 20 thousand dollars insured. The household escaped injury in the rapid-fire blaze.
Secretary Foster of the Treasury today received an open letter from Congressman A. P. Fitch, chairman of the House investigating committee, regarding payments to John I. Davenport for fees and marshals expenses. Foster will consider the letter and respond later. he did not say if Davenport’s payments would be withheld.
Ex-Governor Gear of Iowa telegraphs Secretary Foster that he will accept the newly created assistant secretary of the treasury position and will travel to Washington at once to qualify.
Syracuse New York November 22 a 15 year old girl May Demong disappeared from her home Sunday morning. She had befriended a member of the Eight Bells company and circumstances point to an elopement. The company is currently performing in New York.

In Newburyport on November 22 the independent citizens placed in nomination Orrin J. Gurney for the office of mayor.

A novelty afloat titled A Queen Graft the Danforth's floating hotel from Bath Maine attracts crowds at Rowe's Wharf. The craft is 110 feet long 32 feet wide with a two foot draft, a stern wheel and carries rifles revolvers and hunting gear. It aims for Florida waters offering a two week trip with tropical scenery and sport.
There was a man of our town who was wondrous wise and boasted a single price in his window-front while others showed different prices inside the store. His line about blooming idols being those who advertise echoes the ad trade. A. E. Sproul at 658 Washington Street is mentioned as a business example.
Curtis Guild Jr led a Chickering Hall Republican convention adjourned meeting to report nominees for school committee and street commissioner. Ex representative E W Presho named Pettigrove Whittemore Hastings Keller Allen Paul Eaton Winship Wise for school panel. Isaac S Burrell named street commissioner. Rogers of Brighton nominated for mayor as ex-soldier and strong candidate, with East Boston backing. (Continued on Page B)
