A joint hearing before the Public Service and Rapid Transit Commissions heard Charles A. Ufford of the Harvard Improvement Association propose a major subway plan. He urged ending the Cambridge Dorchester line at South Station and extending to Mattapan via a third rail, with a harbor tunnel to East Boston, plus new elevated and riverfront routes to shorten fares to Winthrop and Lynn.

Funeral Service for Angus McWilliams in Boston

Funeral services for Angus McWilliams, a prominent layman of the First Presbyterian Church in Boston, were held at his home, 3 Cortes street, yesterday. He died last Tuesday at his Sharon summer home. He had been a church member for 32 years and served 28 years as an Elder.

Ocean Crossing Flying Machine Sets Long Trial Run

A hydro aeroplane style craft, weighing about 90 pounds, with three engines, is to begin a long trial trip. The owner says speeds of 40 to 60 mph on water and over 100 mph in air are possible. With all engines running it carries five tons lift, though only one engine is needed for flight. Enthusiasm surrounds this airboat as experts expect a major breakthrough.

Plot to overthrow Pekin government uncovered in Shanghai

A Shanghai despatch to the Daily Telegraph reports documents revealing a wide plot to topple the Pekin government. The plan allegedly sought aid from troops at Shanghai Nanking Hankow and fortifications at Kiangyin and Wusung. Six plotters have been arrested.

Cuts Head Of Swain With Axe

Providence, Nov. 21. Josephina Carrara an 18 year old girl believed her sweetheart Antonio Mansolillo untrue to her. She felled him with a sharp edged axe tonight. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital and is not expected to live. The girl was arrested and confessed to attempted murder claiming she had kept company with Mansolillo for months when she learned he called on another girl. She waited at his home for him to come down stairs and swung the axe splitting his head open. She had been hiding at the foot of the stairs for about a half hour.

Head Master Is Honored at Jefferson Grammar School

Edward P. Sherburne, head master of Jefferson Grammar School Roxbury, received a life size portrait by Richard Andrews of Boston. The gift from teachers, parents and alumni honors his ten years of service since the school opened and his upcoming retirement. The portrait will hang in the school hall during his final term.

Death halts coal prob investigation

John Marble of the Interstate Commerce Commission died in Washington after an acute digestion attack. His illness forced the adjournment of the commission inquiry in Philadelphia into anthracite coal rates and practices, with plans to resume later uncertain. Marble had been in Philadelphia when struck, and was unable to leave.
