Treasury Completes Monthly Silver Purchase and Speculator Profits
Washington reports the Treasury bought 500000 ounces of silver of the 846000 offered, completing the 4500000 ounce monthly target. The price paid was 97 cents and 1 mill per ounce, prompting speculation that a further price drop will follow and that silver speculators may reap about a million dollars in profit from government activity.

The Postmaster General will start free delivery in small villages after reviewing Colonel Bates plans. Small towns with 400 to 500 population could receive one to two hours of service daily at about 107 or 214 dollars per year. An initial 10,000 dollar appropriation remains unused and could cover six months. A similar additional sum may fund next year’s pilot. The aim is to extend to larger towns via another bill.

On Probation Trial by Matthews and Jessup at Star Theatre
New York Nov 19 Mr Crane staged a trial performance of On Probation by Brander Matthews and George H Jessup. The piece, not original though cleverly constructed, follows familiar comedic types and is carried by Crane's artistry. Jonathan Silsbee, a Chicago millionaire, is portrayed with warmth but lacks stature. The plot centers on a year probation for a sweetheart heiress and includes forgivable follies, a mortgage payoff, and a witty line about purgatory. The play should appeal to New York audiences and may replace The Senator if produced.
