Terrific fighting continues along the Piave as Teutons mass wedges to break the Italian defence. Twice the enemy pierced the Piave line, but Italian forces rallied and drove them back with heavy losses. The situation remains grave with Italians under heavy pressure.
Venice remains in danger but Italian confidence grows as the Piave line holds. Italian forces repelled crossings and launched counterattacks at several points, driving Germans and Austro-Hungarians back to the water, with heavy losses suffered by the invaders.
The American embassy in Petrograd has requested a train to move 200 members of the American colony from Petrograd to Harbin, according to a Reuters dispatch dated November 18.

Distress signals reached Keeper Reamy and Cohasset Humane Society, which joined North Scituate coast guard to search until 10 p.m. before locating the exhausted men. The Humane Society boat found the stricken craft half full of water with its crew depleted from hours afloat.
