Canadian fishing licenses urged to curb U S imports
The Port Arthur Board of Trade informs the Minister of Marine and Fisheries that under the McKinley tariff a duty of three quarters of a cent per pound applies to Canadian fish entering the United States from Canadian fishermen or dealers, while U S fishermen can bring in catch from Canadian waters duty free. The board warns this will let Americans control Canadian fisheries and urges withholding licenses to United States citizens after this year's leases expire on December 31 while the U S maintains its stance.
