Deutschland submarine leaves New London for Bremen

The German submarine Deutschland slipped from New London State pier at 1:30 A M bound for Bremen. Captain F Hinsch and Eastern Forwarding Company officials rode one tug as two Scott Wrecking Company tugs towed the sub from the harbor while a launch of reporters trailed down the Thames River to the harbor mouth.

Night Vigil at Pier As Warship Patrols Warn Off

A dozen Wille sailors joined guards at the pier while the Columbia anchored off astern Point. Guards deterred trespassers with planks and water from the stockade area and searchlights scanned the harbor. Rumors of a dynamite incident arose but could not be verified.

Fire drives 200 from six story Fensmere house

A basement blaze at the Fensmere on Massachusetts avenue and Dundee street sent thick smoke through the six story building early today forcing 200 residents from their homes. Four men risked their lives to wake sleeping tenants and guide them outside. Night watchman Charles Bowden ran the elevator to rescue tenants despite heavy smoke.

Passport of Curtin Voided by U. S. Officials

The American embassy in London cancelled the passport of D Thomas Curtin of Boston a former West Roxbury High School teacher and Harvard 1910 graduate.
