Eliot Urges Metropolitan School Commission in Tremont Temple

President Eliot of Marvard opened the Public School Association campaign in Tremont Temple urging creation of a Metropolitan School Commission and a Legislature fixed school funding rate. He called for reduced School Board size as over 1000 attendees, mainly women, listened with attention and applause. Louis D Brandeis chaired and introduced Eliot as the first speaker.

Witnesses Described Police Violence at Demonstration

Mrs. Anna Hibbs and Harold P. Bailey testified they saw women struck on the head by a policeman, and George B. Perham saw a woman pushed over a barbed wire fence. H. B. Spear and R. C. Caryl reported bandages removed from their heads and wounds they attributed to policemen with clubs. Mrs. Rosa Oberhauser testified to numerous policemen striking boys. William A. Harrigan saw an officer rush a deaf and dumb boy and threaten a student who retaliated with a torch.
