Vice President Hobart’s condition brightens after days of decline. He eats solid food with relish and tolerates milk and milk punches. He rests more, sleeps without opiates, and his nervous attacks near night have decreased. Mrs. Hobart remains at his bedside seeking relief.
George F. Maguire stabbed his brother John this afternoon in Lowell, wounding him through the abdomen. the injury is considered dangerous. A family quarrel sparked the attack.
Boston endures the season’s first real snowstorm as temperatures fall to 27 degrees at dawn. Wreaths of snow dusted roofs while icy tears and gusty winds blanketed the city, scattering newsies and derbys along the curb. Pedestrians kept to church hours as political chatter filled the doors, and the big thermometer in Newspaper Row showed a 27 degree morning.
A strong norther and falling temperatures push small vessels to seek shelter near Chatham Beach and Handkerchief Shoal. An unnamed coal laden coaster passed north then anchored under the beach at 2 p.m. and by dusk was hull down while dragging. Life saving crews watch but no distress signal was set.
The schooner Samuel L Crocker from Amboy to Taunton loaded with fire clay sprang a leak in a squall near Niantic and sank after running to Stonington. Captain Clark and the crew were saved and brought to port after pumps kept her afloat all day.
The first automobile wedding took place in Paris at St Germain l Auxerrois with M Richard Dupont and Mlle Jeanne Constant marrying inside the church. Twenty cars carried the bridal party to the reception, decorated with chrysanthemums and ferns as drivers sounded horns in celebration.
Paris November 12 Count Boni de Castel Lane a witness at the Royalist trial yesterday repeated a playful intrusion by approaching the register laughing and face making at friends in the gallery. President Fallieres sharply rebuked him for disrespect and warned of possible contempt proceedings. Boni Lane retreated meekly.
A Post special reports in Brooklyn on William F. Miller head of the Franklin Syndicate. Police and post office officials remain unable to learn details of his methods while local investors press questions about guarantees against loss and the source of his wealth. The operation at 144 Floyd Street employs fifteen female clerks and nine men, with Miller described as a 30-year-old manager. neighborhood witnesses show mixed curiosity and caution as the building is framed by tenements and saloons.
Murphy and Collins supporters filled Sunday canvassing across Boston neighborhoods. Hebrew voters heard FitzGerald and others at the American House while Collins factions gathered in Charlestown Roxbury and East Boston. Dever urged a Collins stand in a Roxbury letter as Murphy partisans visited bartenders unions and Hibernians events.
In Faneuil Hall a large West and North End Hebrew rally backs General Collins for mayor and Finnegan for alderman opposing Alderman Dixon. Speakers include Congressman Fitzgerald and many local figures, praising Democratic ties and denouncing Lomasney. Continuous coverage promised.
