Boston school committee told 3500 teachers they would get a $384 raise instead of the $600 they sought. The Teachers' Advisory Council planned to meet to decide subsequent action in response to the offer.
The Boston Symphony former director Dr Karl Muck loved public attention even as anti German sentiment rose during World War I. Friends urged him to withdraw temporarily or leave the U S and Mexico was proposed as a retreat until peace. Some advised stepping back from public concerts while allowing rehearsals to proceed. In Mansdale Rhode Island on November 10 the St James Roman Catholic Church was completely burned. Five nearby houses also caught fire but were saved by Mansdale and Woonsocket fire crews. Rector Rev A E Oliver entered the blaze to recover sacred vessels and vestments. Loss estimated at 75000 with unknown origin.
