Fort Smith Arkansas reports Deputy Marshal Menshon returning from a trip in the Indian Territory. Nineteen prisoners were brought in and jailed.
In Laval University Laval Montrealt, law students were publicly expelled for refusing to submit to regulations. The rules bar attending political meetings theatre and membership in literary societies unless confession certificates are produced quarterly. The dispute threatens to reopen the Laval Victoria question.
Portland November 10 C W Johnson post master at Limestone Maine arrested on charge of opening a registered letter. Held in 1500 bond for appearance before U S Commissioner Rand. He failed to appear when case was called and bonds were forfeited.
Worcester Mass Nov 10 The late Home Lucius J Knowles left a substantial portion of his estate to charity with a bequest totaling about 22 000 dollars after other distributions. The will also specifies gifts to relatives and named institutions. The probate proceeding commences with the reading of the document and its terms.

Bangor Maine November 10 An inquest into the death of John Simpson on the Bangor and Piscataquis railroad last Thursday returns a verdict that Simpson acted with ordinary care as the train ran 15 miles per hour. It finds a nonemployee served as fireman and that the whistle was not sounded 100 rods from the street crossing. The jury holds the railroad officers responsible for the fast run at that point and says the regular fireman’s absence contributed to the accident.
The polo on roller skates season opens this week with extensive winter campaign planning. Over 300 Massachusetts league games are listed in the American Roller pamphlet, which includes new rules and data for polo players. Openers occurred in Lawrence and Lowell last night, with tonight’s games at Paris rink East Boston Brockton and Cambridge. In Hanover yesterday Harvard defeated Dartmouth in football 2 to 0.
Philadelphia Nov 10 workers at Gloucester iron works were told a 12 percent wage cut with option to leave. Men accepted the reduction and returned to work. Washington cotton mills were scheduled to start but did not begin work this morning.
At about 3 30 P M Monday Ellen Tyson 31 an insane woman of West Brookline attempted suicide by jumping into the Charles river near Arlington street foot of. Citizens rescued her and she was taken to the fourth station for safe keeping by Patrolman Fogg of the division.
