New York November 9 John Collins a sailor on the British steamer Dunstan was killed in the early hours after a quarrel with Bernard Corrigan. After initial blows and a sheath knife wound Collins was struck again with a two foot long wrench in the forecastle, dying almost instantly.

Crew of the schooner Leading Breeze, rescued after sinking sixty five miles off Boston Light, return to Boston aboard the Dominion line steamship Commonwealth. Capt Dorr and crewmen V. Kilton and August Mitchell, among others, travel to Harrington. The ship towed into port after abandonment, crew aided by ship's officers and passengers who funded a purse.
