Offiers of the council were chosen and to be announced at tomorrow’s last preliminary gathering at the cathedral. A grand solemn session is anticipated Sunday.
President Green of the Columbus Toledo railroad asks Governor Hoadly to mobilize the militia after bridges in Hocking county are burned. Sheriff McCarty reports Murray City attacked by 300 to 500 miners using powder fuses and dynamite. He asks protection for Perry and Athens counties as well. No current trouble reported. the governor is in Cincinnati and has not replied.
New York November 7. Revenge won the 225 class purse $500 at the New York driving park in straight heats with times 2:27 3/4 and 2:29. Bergen and Lady Mofolica were also starters. Maxey Cobb and Neta Medium tried to beat Edward and Swiveller 2:16 4 record. Maxey tired near the finish. A keen wind prompted halting further trots. The notch race for $400 in mile beats between J O May and John J and Detary and Ghost was won by the latter in 1:54 1/4.
In Norwich Connecticut on November 4 a cannon salute at Lammon's hill exploded injuring Jeremiah Corcoran thirteen? no seventeen and James R Edwards twenty five. Their hands were blown off and faces disfigured by powder.
In Reading Pa on November 7 authorities reported three of seven men buried by the dismantled stack at Robesonia furnace recovered. The bodies were burned beyond recognition. Four others lie under debris while the dynamite blast at Stoudsburg sent shock waves up to twenty miles away.
A Baltimore Sun despatch details intense public outrage over partisan AP reporting. It accuses Jay Gould of congratulating Cleveland to shield Blaine and claims the Associated Press and Western Union manipulated figures, delays, and district reporting to influence outcome perception.
Col J W Crowley reports 1901 enlisted men in the Marine Corps as of Oct 1 and urges Congress to add privates and raise second lieutenants to 30. He backs new barracks at Norfolk costing 12320 dollars and new housing at 21000 dollars. In Sitka a Sept 5 despatch notes M3. Kinkead arrived to assume civil control of Alaska and a 17 gun salute marked the change. naval forces withdraw from district control.
There were 389 cases of shoes shipped from Marblehead during the week ending Nov. 6. The Lynn district saw 4083 boot and shoe cases shipped for the same period, down from 4471 a year earlier. In Lynn court Friday, Patrick Coburn faced assault charges, Charles Morrill was held for obtaining money under false pretences, William Heffernan was charged with assault, and Abner Tracy faced larceny accusations. all were held in jail with trial set today.
