Fire in Ellsworth destroys multiple downtown blocks
A blaze beginning about 3 a.m. in L W Jordan’s furniture store on Main Street in Ellsworth caused rapid spread through a nest of wooden buildings. The inferno ruined three business blocks and damaged a fourth, with total losses around 25000 and only partial insurance. The Woodruff family narrowly escaped from upstairs rooms as fire and smoke forced quick evacuation.
