Record Fish Fleet Sets Winter Unloading Mark at East Boston
A northeast gale could not deter a 32-ship fleet from landing about 1,000,000 pounds of fresh fish at the East Boston pier since last Saturday. Prices ranged from 21 1/2 to 3 cents a pound for various species as Special Officer Murphy and crew adapted to illness replacements. Meanwhile Leyland liners Kingstonian and Virginian arrived and crews prepared for summer routes. Shipyards buzzed with new hulls and masts, and several schooners and steamers shifted plans for cargoes and routes, keeping the harbor active despite rough seas.
