Vessel ashore at Handkerchief Shoal near Chatham

A square rigged vessel was sighted ashore on Handkerchief Shoal at 10 tonight by Patrolman Bloomer. Captain Marshall N Eldredge and crew from Mono Moy life saving station went to assist with their lifeboat as the wind shifts northeast. The crew is not in danger and can be rescued if the vessel leaks badly. Bark Benjamin F Hunt from Rosario, bound for Boston, was anchored west of Handkerchief and may have been driven ashore by currents.

Fatal Fall From Steeple At Chelsea Church

Edward Morse, 40, died after slipping from a boatswain chair on a church steeple at Shurtleff and Central avenues in Chelsea. Working two–thirds up a 100 foot steeple, Morse fell about 60 feet to the roof and street. The rope tangled, Morse slipped head first, breaking his neck on impact. No witnesses. Morse, a carpenter, left a wife and three children.

Burned at the stake in Perry county Mississippi

Gulfport report states a black man was burned alive in Perry county on Saturday night after being captured following an attack on Mrs. Forterberry wife of a local prominent resident. The crime occurred early Saturday morning and the assailant admitted guilt in confusion.

Teamster Hurt As Horse Snatches Apple

H. H. Gray of 530 Centre Street Jamaica Plain reportedly fed his horse an extra apple. The horse grabbed it and bit Gray’s fingers, sending him to Emergency Hospital for treatment. A second incident involved an unknown boy kicked by a horse, fracture to a leg and wrist sprain, treated at the hospital.
