Ames Election Contest For State Officers And Legislature

The election covered State officers and Legislature to select a United States Senator replacing Ames whose term ends in 1875. Democrats offered no nomination but backed the Alcorn slate. Republicans presented two full tickets backing both the Alcorn and Ames interests.
