Massachusetts election yields sweeping Democratic gains

The Democrats in Massachusetts secure broad gains as returns show Gaston defeating Gov. Washburn by 1349 in Boston and bringing sweeping changes to the Legislature. Hampden county, Middlesex, and Boston shift multiple seats, with twelve opposition Senators and ten Democrats. The overall Republican majority shrinks to about 12,000 from last year.
