Senate adjourns Fifty third Congress after long session
The Senate appropriations committee reported an adjournment resolution and the Senate agreed to adjourn without day after farewell remarks by the Vice President. Senators Coke Dolph Harcia and Cockrell opposed at times but did not block the action. A joint House committee was formed to inform the President the two houses were ready to adjourn. The Vice President bid farewell and extended handshakes to senators and staff as the record of the first session was closed.

Forger Louis Knowlton Arrested After Credit Card Check Fraud
Police arrested Louis G. Knowlton, alias Leon G. Knowlton, a 26 year old man with a prior forgery record. He used counterfeit checks to buy a bell punch and attempted several other passings in Boston, including firms on Brattle Street and Washington Street, with 30 to 40 blank checks found on him. He had operated as a leather goods dealer at 49 State Street, Lynn, until May, and was previously pursued in Lynn and by Boston police for numerous checks.
