Gas fumes from a broken battery in the Octopus turret during a submarine drill near Newport Illinois affected all 12 crew members and left three men not yet resuscitated after surfacing at the torpedo station.
An underwater craft at the torpedo station suffered gas fumes during a drill. Twelve crewmen aboard weakened as air grew foul, three men collapsed, and Lt. Donald C. Bingham ordered surface rescue. The crew regained strength after fresh air and first aid failed to revive the three unconscious sailors.

He reportedly fell beneath the fender as the inbound Hanover Street car backed up, suffering fatal injuries at about 4 45 p m. His death was confirmed by the Elevated road with accounts from several companions.
A California freshman at Wellesley College, Madeline Powers, eloped with Laurin Seth Ulman of Lynn. The couple wed yesterday in Nashua New Hampshire, marking a rare campus sensation.

Irvingstone of California, a famed auto racer, died in Atlanta after a tire puncture caused a wheel collapse during practice at the motor speedway. He was thrown head first, rushed to a hospital, and died at 10:35 p m. He was preparing for races to be held Thursday through Saturday.
