The Boston Y M C A clock on Tremont Street displayed a total of 514 377 last evening as the fund for a new 500 000 building neared completion. Crowds cheered on the Common as the hand moved toward the goal and then toward the next milestone, signaling a successful campaign for the youths’ center.
The Boston Red Sox announce manager Fred Lake has been deposed after seeking higher pay. Pat Donovan, formerly a team scout, is named the new manager for next season, with Lake stating he will pursue other baseball opportunities.
Charles Smith shoe man of Lynn and his wife Mrs Amy Smith of Rutherford New Jersey were reunited here after a 20 year separation thanks to their daughter Helen who located him at a boarding house on Ellis Street. The family planned a reconciliation and the husband was expected to join them in Rutherford where they had already gone ahead.
Atkinson New Hampshire November 1 Jay B Benton of Boston and J Walter Flagg of Worcester completed their 10th balloon ascent of the year with a flight from Lowell to Atkinson, qualifying as pilots of the Aero Club of America.
Mrs. Augusta E. Stetson, in a late tonight letter, announces full submission to Boston Christian Science officials and denies any intention to secede from the Christian Science Church.
Mrs. Stetson releases a letter denying accusations of resisting church authority and plans to form an independent church. She states she has advised the mother church and requested that her students’ association have no meetings this year. She asserts lifelong devotion to Christian Science and to Mary Baker Eddy, noting 25 years of service and growth of the New York church.
Fire crews battled a blaze in a rear third floor machine shop at 10 Thatcher Street in the North End. District Chief Henry A. Fox suffered a bad hand wound from falling glass and was treated at Relief Hospital before returning to the scene. Estimated loss about 3000 dollars as smoke and narrow Lombard Place hindered efforts.
A 50 year old woman named Mary Hamilton of 312 Leverett Street died suddenly at the Relief Station at 6:30. Authorities could not locate someone who knew the address or the woman the night of the incident.
Residents alarmed by robberies committed by three young men ages 18 to 21. A sheriff led posse searched woods and town. They broke into the Profile House, taking money and bric a brac, then robbed P F Parker's store, securing hundreds of dollars and loading suitcases with provisions and blankets.
Lieutenant P H Harrison of the United States revenue cutter Gresham risked his life yesterday when he leapt into the harbor to save Seaman Adolph Beer from drowning as the cutter’s crew member began to sink near the ship.
After vowing to shoot any interference the suspects moved toward Johnson. A constable halted them on the road and described them as 18 to 21 years old. Two heavy dress suitcases were found discarded nearby as the party, now armed, is hunted by Sheriff Carey and deputies. Citizens say they will bring them back dead or alive.
Arthur I. Kelley a 62 year old Milton dry goods merchant was arraigned charged with stealing two diamond rings worth 500 from T Allian W. and Mrs Louise Miller of Back Bay. Held for December grand jury in 1000 bond unable to post sent to Suffolk county jail.
A car derailed on Columbus avenue near Tremont street in Roxbury last night. The rear wheels followed Tremont street tracks causing the derailment and tying up outward service for about 20 minutes.

William W. Smith Jr., 32, a street department foreman in Somerville, was arrested at his Derby street home by Lt. Carter and Insp. Damery on a charge of larceny of 48 dollars from the city by padding payrolls. The complaint came at Mayor Woods request after a Friday conference with Smith.
In Somerville last week a forged pay order for McKillop led City Treasurer Pike to identify the handwriting as a forgery. Mayor Woods suspended Smith for a week after questioning. Smith did not appear, and authorities moved to arrest him. Investigations show McKillop was not employed by the city, with several weeks of pay affected by similar forgeries.
Miss Hat tie Bell Reehr of Pittsburg sued five policemen for defamation of character seeking 10 000 dollars each after an arrest following an incident in a negro resort in the red light district. She had said she was visiting the resort’s owner, describing the woman as an old family servant.

In Waltham on November 1 Mrs Rebecca Roach 93 died five hours after being severely burned by ashes from her pipe. Her daughter Mrs Margaret Melanson was badly burned trying to extinguish the flames. Roach born in Nova Scotia had lived with relatives in South Boston for decades and spent her last days with her daughter.
Forecast for Boston and vicinity calls for unsettled weather with showers Tuesday afternoon or night and Wednesday showers, then clearing and cooler. South winds turn westerly by Wednesday evening. In New England expect showers Tuesday, cooler in the south, Wednesday showers and cooler with increasing south winds. Steamers to European ports face south to southwest winds and showers toward the Grand Banks.
