Washington May 30 General Miles and his staff along with thirty four persons depart for Tampa on a special Southern railway train. In other dispatches a report notes Twenty five transports carrying an army of thirty thousand men and a British steamer loaded with coal captured near Cervera.

Lord Lyon Playfair, noted chemist and reformer, died in London aged 79. Born 1819 in Bengal, he taught chemistry at Manchester and served as sanitary commissioner. As MP for Edinburgh and St Andrews, he championed technical education and influenced English educational progress. He married three times, last to Edith Russell.
