On May 30 the steamer Nacoochee from Savannah and several other vessels including Ideal, Bess Kathleen, Carick, and William Young plus yachts Satiila River and Oliver Hooth were active. Also at 30th Krageras from Port Spain, Baltimore from Chesapeake, Providence bound vessels, Guillermo to Avonmouth, Caledonia to Bahia, Hetrick Ibsen to Anjer, Toul to London, Boreas to Exmouth, City of Mexico to Halifax, and TM isman Dunkik Lizzie Curry sailed for Demerara. Pleiades from Santos reported May 13 near 11S 36W, sighted Gargate from Liverpool to Sydney and took 10 crew from Elliot Ritchie abandoned at sea, landing them in Pernambuco.

Races at Union Grounds Draw 2000 Fans for Boston Ramblers Meet

More than two thousand spectators gathered Friday at Union Athletic grounds to watch the Boston Ramblers hold their second annual bicycle club meeting. Charles Frazier led the half mile heats with times near 1 minute 37 seconds, Edgerly closely behind in both heats, and Mathewson and Marshall following. Edgerly later won the one mile, and the club championship went to H. G. Norcross in 3 minutes 41 seconds. The program also featured a hands off mile, a two mile handicap, a five mile handicap, a tandem event, and a pro five mile race with all prizes awarded to top finishers from Newton, Lynn, Cambridge, and Boston clubs. Officials included Will Harris as referee and Charles S. Howard as starter.

In Baltimore on May 30 twelve ballots were taken in the Protestant Episcopal convention for a bishop. On the eleventh ballot the totals were 137 votes cast with Dr. Leeds at io and Dr. Eccleston at 41 with the remainder scattering. After one twelfth ballot the clergy retired for a conference.

South Boston Yacht Club Opens Regatta With Fair Winds

About two thousand people attended the South Boston Athletic Club picnic at Highland Lake. Fire this morning destroyed the Allen spool and printing company's works at Norwich Falls, Norwich Conn. Loss on machinery and stock about 30000, insured about 10000. Building owned by Falls company, insured 2500 on building and shafting. No start known. Machinery destroyed said to be finest of its kind in the United States. Alarm from box 73 at 305 pm Friday.
