Boisterous Winthrop town meeting featured charges and countercharges as residents hurled epithets and hisses. The session debated $400 paid to Selectman Magee for street work, with calls to recover funds and questions over his dual role. Ex Selectman Craib defended the audit as it moved to later action.
The French republic delegates visiting the United States for the Rochambeau monument unveiling will land at Back Bay Station at 5 p.m. and stay through Sunday. They will be housed at the Hotel Somerset with a schedule including a Governor Crane luncheon, a Boston High School Cadets review, a Harvard College reception, and a city banquet at the hotel.
Boston prepares to honor Rochambeau and Lafayette with a harbor salute. The Gaulois will sail to France escorted by Kearsage and Olympia, while Boston ships and tugs attend the delegation. City Hall closes at noon for a civic luncheon and a grand review by French and American dignitaries.
Fair weather Friday with continued fair Saturday in Boston area. Temperatures slowly rise as southwest winds ease. Washington forecast notes New England fair and warmer Friday, showery and cooler Saturday with winds shifting to the north.

A Felix Ziem painting valued at $15 000 disappeared while in transit from Havre to New York in care of American Express. The painting was removed from its box during voyage and the box repaired, delaying discovery until New York customs checked the freight. A full description has been circulated to American and European cities as a search continues.
The British mule camp at Lathrop Missouri, active since May 1901 and handling about 9000 horses and mules for South Africa, will be moved to Toronto Canada immediately. Most British officers have departed and about 2000 horses remain to be shipped within days.
William Fife and George L Watson finalize plans for a new America's Cup challenger to be built by Dennys at Dumbarton for Sir Thomas Lipton. Captain Robert Wringe and Captain Hogarth, previously with Shamrock I, will command the yacht. building contracts are to be closed.
Mr. Whiting announced his plan to resign from his current post about a week ago and take up private business. The resignation becomes effective July 1. He will join a well known local hardware concern and serve as treasurer.
Memorial Day in Greater Boston will feature solemn services at the Common and Tremont Temple with speeches by E W Maddocks and Colonel Pope and flower tributes for dead soldiers. A Dahlgren Post service at Marine Park will cast flowers into the bay. A broad sports program including baseball golf tennis horse racing automobile races bicycle racing and yacht races runs alongside the ceremonies.
