George H. Diamond 47 of Chelsea ambushed Patrolman H J Boutelier near Friend and Travers streets after a confrontation with Patrolman Murphy. Boutelier was struck in the neck area and shielded by his helmet. Diamond dropped knives as Murphy tackled him. Diamond, identified as Christopher A Foster, had just been released from Charlestown State Prison.

Drowning in Spy Pond Claims Two Young Men

May 2 Arlington witnesses two deaths in Spy Pond as Daniel Bannister 21 of Somerville and Allen Paterson 17 of North Cambridge drowned within hours of each other. Bannister’s capsized boat near Lynnwood street led to a long search and recovery at six. Paterson, alone in a canoe near Arlington Boat Club, went down and was found drowned about two hours later. Both were unmarried.

Robbed by Thugs on Broadway Extension

Two young men, recent immigrants, were held up and robbed by a four-man gang on Broadway extension. Abdalla Nome of 88 Kneeland street lost his gold watch and $40. his companion escaped. They were taken to Station 4 to report the incident.

Richard Seegent of East Cambridge perished in a drowning incident at Revere Beach during opening day activities.
