Dangerous Food Adulteration and Hidden Poison in Powders
The article argues adulterated baking powders pose health risks when misrepresented as pure. It cites alum and lime in powders, noting Royal and others contain dangerous impurities. Officials have seized and tested powders, showing lime and alum in many brands. Consumers should prefer well established purities like Royal to avoid health harm.

Both branches of city government met Saturday to renew efforts on the appropriation bill but again failed passage. The common council opened at 1 30 p m and adjourned to 2 10 p m with a vote to adhere to the council's prior stance, rejecting the board of aldermen's concessions.
