Fire drives guests from Hotel Brewster in early morning scare

Seventy five diners and thirty guests were evacuated from the Hotel Brewster after a basement grease chute fire sent smoke through rooms and corridors last night. District Chief Daniel Sennett ordered manager Arthur Dearborn to empty the building as bellboys ensured guests left calmly. The blaze extended into a haberdashery on Boylston Street but damage to the hotel was slight while the store suffered heavy damage.

Fire charges dismissed against Boston Fire Patrol manager and canvasser

Larceny charges against Henry M. Jarrett and Ralph Harding, both connected with the Boston Fire Patrol Company, were dismissed in the Superior Criminal Court after subscribers claimed inadequate service.

Death of Mrs Barry Found in South Boston Home

Mrs Joanna Barry aged 42 of 30 B Street South Boston was found dead on her bedroom floor early this morning. Medical Examiner Magrath notified and investigating cause of death.

New Commonwealth Pier Opens With Hamburg Line Arrival

The new $2,500,000 Commonwealth Pier at South Boston will be dedicated Friday at 4 PM with state and city officials present led by Governor Foss. The Hamburg America liner Cincinnati arrives Saturday morning to inaugurate regular passenger service to Germany and raw material shipments to Europe.

East Dedham police raided Minot Hall where the Order of United Brewers of America held a convention. Officers seized more than a dozen cases of beer and quantities of whiskey as hundreds of members were in attendance, with arrests following and the event breaking up.

Officers entered the hall and bought two quarts of whiskey from Morris and Adelaide Krekowski, alleged members of the order. A raid followed the convention opening at 2 PM in Minot Hall.
